To most people, Bob’s Burgers and Brew in Everett is a restaurant. But for owner Carrie deKubber, it’s a vehicle.
“I’m always asking myself, ‘How can I use this vehicle to help others?’ It isn’t just for the betterment of my employees.”
So when she met Tyrone McMorris about six years ago, that question was at the front of her mind. Tyrone is the Executive Director of Casino Road Kids Ministries (CRKM), which gives Everett-area children aged five to 11 free meals, school supplies and after school mentorship programming. At first, Tyrone thought Bob’s Burgers and Brew – Everett might make a good venue for a CRKM Christmas party. Turns out, the restaurant has become a longterm partner of CRKM’s mission.
“I’m so grateful to have crossed paths with Tyrone. I admire his mission and his passion for the kids,” Carrie says. “I’m excited to see where this partnership takes us.”
Helping Everett’s kids Start Out Right
CRKM is busy putting together Christmas hampers for local children, and there’s still time for you to help! The public can support by purchasing gifts from the Wishlist or donating money before Dec. 14.
“You can also support by volunteering your time and money year round,” says Carrie, who is helping put hampers together.
CRKM runs homework and Bible clubs throughout the Mukilteo School District calendar year at a variety of local schools where children learn the importance of education and respectful behavior towards self, others and property. Tyrone and other mentors and volunteers create a safe space for children to receive help with homework, build friendships with other children, have fun, and eat great food. Bob’s Burgers and Brew – Everett provides the meal to Homework Club every other week.
“It’s important to me to provide food — for some kids, it might be the only good dinner they have all week. I don’t know everyone’s situation so we make sure there is plenty if they want to take home to share,” Carrie says.
CRKM also hosts a Start Out Right event every August, where children pick out a brand new backpack and school supplies for their first day back to school — and enjoy a meal provided by Bob’s Burgers and Brew. Their annual fundraising auction takes place every October, with dinner supplied by Bob’s Burgers and Brew, plus a raffle and live auction.
“It’s been a cool partnership, and Carrie’s become a great friend. She’s very humble, gracious and kind,” Tyrone says.
