Everett’s Carrie deKubber and Tyrone McMorris understand the value of a great partnership, especially when it comes to helping local children thrive.
deKubber, owner of Bob’s Burgers & Brew Everett, brings her team to cook and serve dinner for the kids at McMorris’s Casino Road Kids Ministries several times a year, helping the nonprofit provide essential support to children in need. This week, the two are joining forces to host a Christmas party for children and their families in Everett.
“Our involvement is about using our skills for a greater cause,” deKubber explains.
Programs to help children to thrive
Casino Road Kids Ministries offers a range of services, including homework clubs, Bible school and group learning activities. They also provide dinner three times a week.
“Our programs are designed to offer a safe and supportive environment for children,” explains McMorris. “The homework club is important for parents who are busy or for whom English is not the first language.”
The organization serves children aged 5 to 14, with more than 160 children enrolled in the after-school program.
“The response from the community has been incredible. We have a diverse group of 30 volunteers, including former teachers and past children who attended Casino Roads,” McMorris adds.
“I believe every child is smart enough to complete school. The kids inspire me as they go through school, and through life more broadly,” he says, highlighting the story of a young man who first started the afterschool program in Grade 1. McMorris has seen him grow up, thrive, intern for Seattle Youths in Crisis, and is now working directly with the ministry itself, developing a program to aid more children.
A strong community network to support these initiatives is essential.
“Our partnership with Bob’s Burgers is a key element in providing children not just meals but a sense of community and belonging,” he says.
McMorris also touches on the Show Love fundraiser night, an example of how the partnership creatively engages the community for fundraising and awareness. “Such events are crucial. They bring the community together and highlight the ongoing needs and the impact of our programs,” he adds.
This collaboration between Bob’s Burgers and Brew Everett and Casino Road Kids Ministries is a testament to the power of local businesses and nonprofits working together. It not only addresses immediate needs like hunger and educational support but also fosters a sense of community solidarity, demonstrating the significant impact of sustained, collaborative efforts in improving the lives of children and families in need.
