While Carl P. Leubsdorf says “get set for a rough ride” with the new president, our challenge is to be more than rider (“What’s ahead in a second Trump admistration,” The Herald, Nov. 8)
This means not just electing but directing those who represent us in Congress. Right now, the House needs to take action on the End TB Now Act that has already passed the Senate with a bipartisan majority. It will help end tuberculosis as the world’s No. 1 infectious disease.
The Senate needs to pass The Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act, that passed the House by a large bipartisan vote months ago. This bill would add affordable housing and battle child poverty, while sunsetting a few programs that didn’t work. By calling our senators and representatives, 202-224-3121, we can encourage them to pass this legislation now. And continue to encourage critical programs like SNAP be fully funded so people aren’t forced to choose between food and rent.
Time for us to speak up, take action, not just be riders.
