Supporting local journalism, opinion
I read with some amusement and some consternation the political opinions many of your Opinion Page regulars like Sid Schwab write. I even wrote my first-time comment to Schwab the day after Trump won to ask him to stop the madness seen in this election by both sides for a little while the process works itself out. We exchanged several civil emails as one should in a democracy.
A quick example of the checks and balances in a democracy is the Republicans stopping an obvious bad choice for the attorney general pick. We were both civil in these exchanges, but I know he would spend the next four years doing what he has done the last four years.
Hey, we get it! We moderate conservatives in Washington state happened to pick a state that is the farthest leaning liberal state in the country. The Herald has to cater to the political philosophy that is held by the vast majority in this area. However, the comment recently by a disgruntled Republican who said he can’t see supporting the paper is wrong!
We need local journalism that though heavy with liberal biases, it still listens and print letters to the editor like mine and once in a while, some conservative articles as well. Our alternatives if local journalism goes away are listening to Fox News or CNN and you know what one-sided news they put out.
I am renewing my subscription to The Hearld and Seattle Times.
