GIRLS BASKETBALL

Non-league

Glacier Peak 72, Everett 31

SNOHOMISH — The Grizzlies (2-0) earned a second blowout win in a row, defeating the Seagulls (0-2) handily. Glacier Peak senior guard Brynna Pukis led all scorers with 20 points, all in the first half, on six 3-pointers and two free throws. Junior guard Akira Shaw led the Everett offense with 15 points.

Bellingham 34, Marysville-Getchell 26

MARYSVILLE — The Bayhawks (1-0) defeated the Chargers (0-2) in a low-scoring affair, with Bellingham’s 10 free-throws-made to Marysville-Getchell’s one being the difference. Bellingham’s Malia Hanks led all scorers with 11 points while the Chargers were led by senior Jaidyn Swanson’s nine points.

Shorecrest 57, Monroe 38

MONROE — The Highlanders (1-1) beat the Bearcats (0-2) to shake off an opening-night loss. Shorecrest pulled away in the second half, outscoring Monroe 32-16 in the final two quarters after leading by three at the half. Senior forward Cassie Chesnut nearly put together a double-double for Shorecrest, finishing with 22 points and nine rebounds. Guards Halle Keller and Savannah Lee each scored nine for Monroe to lead the team.

Lake Stevens 61, Shorewood 40

LAKE STEVENS — The Vikings (2-0) rolled to their second win of the season, taking down the Stormrays (1-2) at home. Lake Stevens relied on their scoring duo of sisters Keira (24 points) and Noelani Tupua (17 points) to fuel their offense. The Stormrays had a rough night on that end of the floor but got a valuable 14 points from senior guard Vanessa Spadafora.

Edmonds-Woodway 55, Cascade 15

EDMONDS — The Warriors (2-0) leveraged a defensive gem to cruise to a win over the Bruins (1-1) at home. Sophomore guard Jasmine Gill paced Edmonds-Woodway with a game-high 11 points on the night. Senior forward Sally Sylla led Cascade with five points.

Stanwood 50, Arlington 39

STANWOOD — A strong third quarter carried the Spartans (1-0) over the Eagles (0-2). Stanwood junior forward Ellalee Wortham scored a game-high 21 points while senior forward Kierra Reese led Arlington with 14.

Nooksack Valley 40, Sultan 33

EVERSON — The Pioneers (1-0) earned their first win of the season against the Turks (1-1) in a defensive battle. Nooksack Valley, beginning its quest for a third-straight state 1A championship, was powered by an 18-point performance from sophomore forward Grace Dehoog. For Sultan, senior guard Wendy Asper contributed 11 points and made all three of her team’s 3-pointers in the loss.
