MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — The city’s outstanding actress is making history again.
First Lily Gladstone was nominated for an Oscar, and now she’s in the running for an Emmy Award.
Gladstone, a 2004 Mountlake Terrace High School graduate, is up for best supporting actress for “Under the Bridge” on Hulu. She and another actress, Kali Reis (“True Detective: Night Country”), are the first Native American women to receive Emmy acting nominations.
Gladstone, 37, was the first Native American to win Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe best actress awards for her performance in Martin Scorsese’s 2023 movie “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
She was the first Native American nominated for a lead actress Oscar. An Academy Awards watch party was held in March at the high school where her graduating class voted her “Most Likely to Win an Oscar.” Instead, the trophy went to Emma Stone for “Poor Things.”
In the true crime drama “Under the Bridge,” Gladstone is a boldly determined cop investigating a murder in the eight-episode series based on Rebecca Godfrey’s 2005 book about the 1997 death on Vancouver Island of 14-year-old Reena Virk. The teen’s friends were convicted of killing her under a bridge after luring her to a party.
Gladstone is the only Emmy nomination for “Under the Bridge.”
In addition to Reis in the Emmy supporting actress category for a limited or anthology series, Gladstone faces Dakota Fanning (“Ripley”), Jessica Gunning (“Baby Reindeer”), Aja Naomi King (“Lessons in Chemistry”), Diane Lane (“Feud: Capote vs. The Swans”) and Nava Mau (“Baby Reindeer”).
The Emmy Awards are Sept. 15.
Gladstone isn’t the only Emmy contender with Snohomish County ties.
“Jeopardy!” host Ken Jennings, who was born in Edmonds, is nominated for a best game show host award.
