Memory care community enriches lives for seniors in Mukilteo

Resident-centered approach creates feelings of belonging and purpose

For families with loved ones living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, exploring options for care can be overwhelming.

“We’re here to help families navigate the different solutions for memory care before it becomes an emergent need,” says Sarah Martin, Marketing Director of Mukilteo Memory Care. “We employ a resident-centered approach to memory care, with a professional team that can deliver the right level of care for your loved one’s needs.”

Mukilteo Memory Care, which was built in 2017, is unique in that it is designed specifically to enrich the lives of those in need of memory care.

“The building was purpose-built to help those on their memory care journey,” Martin says. “It’s very progressive in terms of the amenities and spaces, including the high ceilings and wide hallways, painted with warm inviting colors. The dining room also has surround sound, and each room has its own air conditioner. We try to create a real feeling of home – our residents can even decorate their own rooms in the style they choose.”

Depending on your loved one’s needs, Mukilteo Memory Care’s support staff help with personal care or activities of daily living, such as hygiene, dressing, eating and help with moving about.

“Some of our residents might need help with getting out of their wheelchair, while others need help finding their way to and from dining,” Martin says. “Our staff caters to each individual’s needs, whether cognitive or physical, and can help support families of all diversities.”

Activities at Mukilteo Memory Care include picnics, arts and crafts, walks in the courtyard, and cards, games and movies – all designed to keep residents informed and engaged.

Their memory care program also focuses on creating feelings of belonging and purpose, by keeping residents engaged in life mentally, emotionally, and physically.

“The life enrichment aspect of our care caters to all five senses, with different activities and programs that allow our residents to live in the moment and enjoy their lives,” Martin says.

Specially designed for memory care, life enrichment activities strive to maximize independence while focusing on individual strengths and abilities. Activities include picnics, arts and crafts, walks in the courtyard, and cards, games and movies – all designed to keep residents informed and engaged.

“Mukilteo Memory Care is a stand-alone community, but we’re managed by Senior Services of America,” Martin says. “This ensures you’ll receive a consistent standard of care, service, and programming specifically catered to seniors with dementia.”

Martin continues, “Personally, I focus on educating families, so that even if they’re not a fit here, we can be a resource to point them in the right direction and path for them.”
